City Council of Puerto Princesa was disappointed that Danilo Malonzo, former president of Palawan Landless and Farmers Association, did not show up for the Council’s question and answer hour during its 80th regular session Jan. 19.
Malonzo was invited after a local radio station revealed that prominent names in the city were able to get residential lots in Sitio Tagbarungis in Brgy. Inagawan which were supposed to be for those who do not own any land or cannot afford to buy a land of their own.
Malonzo sent a letter to the City Secretariat stating that any question regarding the lot distribution should be addressed to Amelia Romero of the National Housing Authority since he was not anymore connected with the City Government.
According to the City Secretariat, the Council “cannot compel Malonzo to come” unless they file a contempt case before the court.
Councilor Jimmy Carbonell, said that “Malonzo cannot use that reason to not to appear before the city council for question and answer” since the issue was a very serious matter.
The council added that there were many questions that only he can provide answers.
“We are not hostile here. Nobody is saying that what he did was wrong, we just want to be informed,” Councilor Feliberto Oliveros II told the local media in an interview.
The council sent Malonzo another invitation for the next regular session. According to Oliveros, they are still hoping for him to appear.
